Eva Kotátková
Anatomical Orchestra
31. May – 20. July 2014

Schinkel Pavillon presents Anatomical Orchestra, the first institutional solo exhibition of Eva Kot’átková (*1982 Prague) in Berlin. In her body of work, the Czech artist consistently focuses on the disciplining of the individual. The corset the individual is forced into by external influences – such as family and school, as well as the rules of society or even e.g. architecture – is being illustrated in various mediums and diverse forms of expressions. With Anatomical Orchestra, Kot’átková concentrates on the interface between the body and the environment. The exhibition space of Schinkel Pavillon is transformed into a surreal stage, where oversized instruments, peculiar prostheses and alike objects await their activation by the human body.

PALIMPSEST

a concert with Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Iza Mortag Freund & BASMNR

In conjunction with the exhibition Anatomical Orchestra, the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, BASMNR & Iza Mortag Freund continue to explore the theme of the fragmented body in their concert PALIMPSEST. The performance engages with the covering, translucence and simultaneity of past and present in our thoughts and emotions – the utopic self and its decay. In Kot’átková’s exhibition Anatomical Orchestra the theme is interpreted in a long static moment, accompanied by Dufay’s renaissance music as well as pieces by the contemporary composers Mathias Spahlinger, Marc Andre, Peter Ablinger and Christoph Herndler. The musical structure of PALIMPSEST is an electronic composition by BASMNR (Ole Brolin / Tilman Kanitz). It moves through the infinity of white noise, disappears behind the microtonal organized noise and sounds of the contemporary pieces, and re-emerges with the music of Dufay.
